This is an amazing price difference as the Core i7-875K costs a whopping 41% less than the Core i7-870. It’s not every day you see Intel do something like this and if you are wanting a Lynnfield processor the Core i7-875K processor is the obvious choice. You get an unlocked processor for the LGA 1156 platform and the price can’t be beat if you want the fastest processor that money can buy for this platform…

This processor sports the new Socket AM3 938-pin micro-PGA package so it will work in all Socket AM3 and AM2 motherboards with both DDR2/DDR3 memory solutions. The AMD Athlon II X2 260 features a nice and low TDP of only 65 Watts, which will make it easy to keep nice and cool. The AMD Athlon II X2 260 isn’t going to break any world records when it comes to performance. For a $76.00 processor you can’t expect it to. With that being said, it performs admirably. In all of the benchmarks performed today it performed at it’s best when running lightly threaded applications…

This was made crystal clear when the Intel Core i7-975 processor was able to beat out the Intel Skulltrail platform running a pair of Intel QX9775 processors. This is the very first time a quad-core processor with Hyper-Threading was able to knock down the 2P server/enthusiast platform running a pair of true quad-core processors. This is impressive considering just one Intel QX9775 processor runs $1555 shipped at Newegg! That means the $1039 Core i7 975 Extreme edition just beat a system using $3110 worth of processors! This is very significant and it’s no wonder Intel recently announced that the QX9775 was being discontinued…

With an unlocked multiplier, and 64nm technology AMD plans on going head to head with the older Core 2 dual cores, as well as replaceing the older high end X2’s. This new CPU also features L3 cache, which should improve scores in all kinds of tests, along with gameing.

The question remains, can the new Athon compete with the older X2’s? Or is this another broken promise by AMD.

Last week’s launch of the Phenom II X4 955 was a big win with the enthusiast crowd. This week, however, it looks like AMD has shifted focused to the mainstream market. Not only is the highly anticipated Radeon HD 4770 launching today, but also a new dual core Black Edition processor: the Athlon X2 7850 AD785ZWCGHBOX. Based on the updated K10 Kuma architecture, the 2.8GHz X2 7850 is poised to take over as AMD’s flagship dual core processor. At only $69 USD, it’s also shaping up to be quite a bargain. Benchmark Reviews has thoroughly tested this new processor, and today we bring you our results.

At 2.8GHz, the Athlon X2 7850 BE inches ahead of the 2.7 GHz Athlon X2 7750 launched in December of last year. Beyond the 100 MHz bump in clock speed, however, these chips are essentially the same. That’s not necessary a bad thing, though. Clock-for-clock, the new Kuma based dual cores from AMD are much faster than the outgoing Brisbane core, thanks in part to the improved architecture, level 3 cache, and the addition of new instruction sets.
