Canon’s PIXMA Pro9500 Mark II is an outstanding A3+ inkjet printer that’s ideal for advanced photographers. With a resolution of 4800×2400dpi and using a 10-colour pigment ink system, it produces fantastic quality photographs and razor-sharp text relatively quickly and quietly. Business graphics are also solid, should you want to impress the boss with the odd PowerPoint presentation. And as it uses both matte and photo blacks, it allows photographers to print on both gloss and matte media without changing ink tanks. It offers 16 bits per channel printing and dedicated monochrome printing, and the Ambient Light Correction option that adjusts the final print according to type of lighting under which the print will be displayed is a really neat feature. If you are looking for the closest thing to that photo-lab print experience in a printer that’s reasonably within the budget of the serious enthusiast, Canon’s PIXMA Pro9500 Mark II is a great choice. The only downside is that it’s a monster of a device – especially with all the paper tray extended – so make sure you have the room for it. I’d also have liked plug-ins for either Apple’s Aperture or Adobe’s Lightroom.
