AMD Phenom-II X4-980 BE Deneb Processor

AMD Phenom-II X4-980 BE Deneb Processor

As is common with AMD CPUs, the next in the Phenom-II X4 Black Edition series is being released; the Phenom-II X4-980BE HDZ980FBK4DGM. The X4-980BE will take over as AMDs flagship quad-core processor and guess what, it is 100MHz faster than the current quad-core king at 3.7GHz. Without surprise the Phenom-II X4-980BE will be released at the same price the X4-975BE was released in January 2011 with an MSRP of $195. And because we are just that reliable, Benchmark Reviews is here to give you the run down on the Phenom-II X4-980BE to show you how it stacks up against its younger brothers and the similarly priced (though slightly more expensive) Core i5-2500K.

While the AMD Phenom II X4 980 wasn't the fastest processor that we had on our bench today, it did everything we asked to without hesitation and did it well. AMD has taken the 'Deneb' core architecture and stretched it out as far as they could. We wouldn't be shocked if the AMD Phenom II X4 980 Black Edition isn't the very last speed bump for this generation of processors. This core was well designed as we showed you that the 980 BE was able to hit 4.5GHz in our overclocking section, which was a clock frequency that we could reach on the very first Deneb revisions back in 2009.

Every Watt Counts: AMD E-350 vs. Intel Core i3-2100T

The variety of components for small energy-efficient systems keeps growing day by day. In this review we are going to talk about energy-efficiency processors: AMD E-350 (Zacate) and Intel Core i3-2100T (Sandy Bridge). We will also discuss new Mini-ITX mainboards: Gigabyte E350N-USB3 (AMD Brazos platform) and Zotac H67-ITX WiFi (for LGA1155 processors).

Intel designed the Sandy Bridge to replace the mainstream processors, so it is natural that the company has unleashed processors that range from the $100 all the way to $300. We have already reviewed the Core i7-2600K and the Core i5-2500K for the enthusiast and mainstream markets. Today, we are going to look at the other side of the spectrum--the $124 Core i3-2100, which is the cheapest Sandy Bridge processor available at the moment.

For those willing to spend $999 USD on a new processor, Intel has a new Core i7 part out that is stunningly fast. The Core i7 990X is the $999 successor to the previously reviewed Core i7 970 that ups the core frequency to 3.46GHz and provides a 3.73GHz Turbo Boost frequency. This six-core CPU with Hyper Threading works wonderful with Linux.
